Would Stan Lee kill Spiderman? You don't kill off your A-level characters. We're not talking about Rurik here. We're talking about Devona! She's the star of Guild Wars. In the Guild Wars lore, who is greater?
"When I was a young girl, my father fought in the Guild Wars. He gave up his life to keep our home safe. Because of his sacrifice, I grew up to know the meaning of the word peace. But now, a new threat rises from the west. A malevolence that seeks to destroy all that my father fought for. I know not the name of this evil. Soon though, it will know mine. The days of peace are over."
It's interesting though. While we know that ArenaNet does read Lost In Ascalon, I'm not sure what they think about the storyline. Do they like it? Do they hate it? Does it influance the creation of the lore? Sometimes I feel like a wild card in the Guild Wars community. There are NPCs in the game that were named after Alpha testers. There is no such NPC for me. In other words, there's no official nod to the Lost In Ascalon series... not in the game... not that I could see. ArenaNet makes tons of references to other things in their games. Yet, it seems to be an unwritten ArenaNet law - DO NOT MENTION "HIM".
Think of the possibilities. I think "Photics" would make a great henchmen or hero. Although, with Cynn, Zhed, Sosuske and others, do we really need another Fire Elementalist to choose from? HA! Also, I would love to write a fan-fiction novel based on Guild Wars lore. Unfortunately, I couldn't sell it. Heh, so that's not likely to happen. I have some other ideas for a fan-fiction project, but my skills are not up to that level yet. Anyway... my point is this... ArenaNet could easily change their lore to crush my series, or they could change the lore to acknowledge the series. Neither has happened so far. I've only made two assumptions about the future...
- Gwen is alive
- Devona stays alive... and single!
...the rest is really just straight from the game. I doubt that they'd kill Devona. It would be like officially killing the original Guild Wars series. The game starts with Devona and friends. Each chapter expands on their story and their struggle. Lost In Ascalon was named for two reasons... Photics is looking for Gwen, who was lost in ascalon... and innocence was lost in ascalon. The series is about the struggles of our heroes. Will they ever regain the joy that they had in Old Ascalon?
In this comic, I say, "Yes!"
Hundreds of years separates Guild Wars 1 & 2. That suggests a period of peace, which will probably result from the end of Guild Wars: Eye of the North. It looks like there's going to be a confrontation between the Ascalonians and the Charr. I'm thinking the Ascalonians will win this time around, as ArenaNet is wrapping things up. We're moving on to the sequel. It is conceivable that Devona would follow in her father's footsteps... that she would give up her life, so that her children would know peace. Yet... Devona has no children. So... she must live!
