Translation: ArenaNet ran out of money!
I thought the $100,000 tournaments were a little crazy. Why waste all that money that benefits such a small percent of the players? Why not take that money and make the game a better experience for everyone? Hopefully that's the theme for Guild Wars 2.
I don't consider video games a competitive sport. It just doesn't seem to work that way for me. There are the hardcore players who enjoy extreme competition, but I play video games as a form of relaxation. I think the majority of gamers are the same as me. Once video games start to become too stressful, or start to feel like work, the entertainment value is lost.
I think the new tournament system is better for the community. The Zaishen Title Track adds more objectives for the title grinders. The new items are also interesting. Players can be just as excited about obtaining virtual loot as real world loot. With just a little bit of development time, does ArenaNet have a more inviting tournament?
