I just picked up a DS :D but have you tried the metroid demo? the controls work pretty well with the buttons and touch screen it's really all how the developers design the game to fit the controls so it depends, and viewtiful joe is coming out which will use the buttons and screens.
Yea two screens are hard to keep track of but like I said it's how the developers use them so some may just be maps so you don't have to pay too much attention to them.
