Since Studio 8 is on the way, I started to familiarize myself with some Flash information. Flash isn't just about actionscript. It's also an impressive animation tool. If you notice, my Lost In Ascalon cartoons are created in Flash. Yet, it's not on an elite level yet. I have a lot to learn. That's why I started reading... and I spotted this...

If you're interested in using Flash to create animation, this is fun to watch. The tutorial is over a year old, but it's all new stuff to me. I'm working on a new Guild Wars project where I'd like to see some animation. I was getting discouraged, as this stuff can be overwhelming, but I was encouraged after watching this presentation.

Of course, I can't actually use half the stuff discussed, as I'm still using Flash 4. HA HA. Heh... Studio 8 can't get here soon enough.

Anyway, it's a good stuff... if you have 82 minutes to kill. Chris Georgenes shows how he made an animated hula girl. You can see the final result at the top of this page...

I think making animations is super cool and a lot of fun... But I was starting to learn to animate using Blender... Ever hear of it ?

I would love to contribute animations / models , but i dunno if you want stuff that is made from Blender...

Is 3d studio max freeware software ? Is it any better than blender ? I was reading on the blender website, they claim that people that have been using Max for years find Blender to be easier to work with...

But i am just a begginner so i dunno... And i have not tried 3d studio max.

I don't know much about 3D software. I never even heard of Blender until you mentioned it. I don't know how 3D programs would work for a project like what I have in mind.

Although... I've been trying to think larger... what if I started an open source project for a game based on my book? That could use 3D stuff. I have to think about this. I recently picked up a flash game design book. I am quite disenchanted towards the whole process of game creation. The game I wanted to make is far more difficult than I imagined. Instead, I'm beta testing something more simple... and even that has its headaches.

I've been less critical of ArenaNet ever since I started with RogueBATTLE. :P

That's why I really think ArenaNet should give the community something to work on... map making, mods... something. It really gives the community perspective on how hard it is to make and maintain an online game. That's the goal of this forum. Since we can't muck around with the official version of Guild Wars, why not make some fansite games?

That idea hasn't caught on yet. Heh.
