Bots?

I read the new updates to GW on guildwars.com and I saw something like
"working on eliminating bots....." etc
What the heck are bots?
And how do they affect the game negatively?

Bots can be used to farm loot. It's a program that plays for you. Guild Wars is highly prone to Bots, as instanced areas have no randomness. That means you can program a script to hit the same area over and over again. Think of it like Artificial Intelligence playing for you.

Bots are computer programs that play the game for you. For example, someone could write a bot that will repeatedly run through the Riverside Province, farming everything he can along the way. They are harmful to the game because they skew the economy. There is no way a real player (who has to do things like sleep, work, exercise, and eat) can compete with a bot that can run 24/7 in terms of gathering cash. There are other ways in which bots can be harmful, but those should be self-evident.

Holy cow! First of all, that sucks. I never knew what that meant when people talked about bots--thanks so much for letting me know what that means.
Second of all, no wonder the drops I've been getting lately are worthless (spent 2 hours in the UW and the best thing I got was 15 piles of glittering dust! woot!....not!)
I hope they fix that problem as soon as possible.
