It depends what your objectives are... and where you are in the game.
As comparison, The Crusaders guild has 150,000 in the bank. Meanwhile... TANK, my Warrior/Ranger, has 71 gold. That's right... 71 GOLD!
This close to Factions, you're probably going to want a lot of money. Think of all the new skills to buy... at 1,000 gold each! Think of all the new armor to buy too!

I feel that I have a lot of gold, but I'm sure that there are people that have a lot more than I do. I have over 300k on each of 2 accounts. I also have about 200k worth of crafting materials. I spend my money in game about the way I spend my money in real life. I only buy the things I need, or think I need. I don't buy things that just make me look better. No 15k armor. No cool skins on my weapons. Since I have one of each primary profession character and can change my secondary to anything I want to, I feel I've done just about everything that I want to.
I'm like many people....I don't even do the Fire Island missions anymore. I get to Ember Light Camp so that I can buy any skills that I need and that's it. I do a ton of farming. That's about all I do anymore. At least until the release of Factions, which is only a week away now. I'm pretty much our guilds bank too. People borrow money from me all the time. It's not like I'm using it.
I've unlocked all the skills, normal and elite, on my primary account and have almost enough unused skill points to unlock all the Assassin and Ritualist skills once Factions is released.
Having money is all a matter of personal preference. I only have it because I'm frugal and don't spend it on what I feel to be vanity items. As long as you have what you need, you should be good. By the way, as far as weapons, offhands and shields go, the collectors throughout the desert offer some really good alternatives to the oh so coveted "green" items. In my opinion, the collectors items are better in some senses. For instance, the collectors items for the MM Necro are better than the green Bortak's items.
Hopefully I didn't get too off topic, but there it is anyway.

Currently I'm just shy of 1M not to mention the weapons I'm too lazy to sell. Baggy I think has around 1.2M. However I'm sure baggy has accumulated much more than me seeing as he has FoW armor and HoD sword
When I first completed the game about 4 or 5 months ago I had something like 4k in the bank and I thought I was doing good. It wasnt until Feb. that I started running for money and looking for ways to make some.
I suppose if you're determined enough you can make some good money. I made 60k in an hour and a half the other night by selling off 2 runes, doing a droks run and exchanging some wood for parchment (and vellum which i havnt sold yet) to sell. However about 35-40k of that came from the runes :P.
It all depends on how you look at it and what you want to do with it.

I sold a superior absorption for 90 platinum once. I have over 100 platinum on my account right now, and I don't count myself wealthy by any means. I know people who have maxed out their platinum storage. Four platinum is a drop in the bucket, my friend.

The most I ever had was 15K, wich I went threw pretty fast. Those skills, armors, and dyes don't come cheap.
I was never one to relly try to hord as much gold as possiable.
Just rember gold not spent is gold being wasted, and the same goes for planuim too.

In answer to your question & IMHO, it is relatively easy to acumulate 100-200k. (k=1000g=1p) That would be an average amount to have. Above that could be considered "a lot of gold". I recently accumulated 700+k, but I play waaaay too much.

Lol - too true! That's why I spent most of that 700k on FoW armor for my Ranger.

Although I have a few hundred k I probably will never reach the lofty levels of the others on this thread. This is because in addition to buying vanity armors and whatever else I want, I give away huge amounts of gold, weapons and materials to guildies and others.
I remember first arriving in Ascalon with like 200 gp and trying to get a decent bow for my ranger. A generous stranger sold me a nice max bow for nearly nothing. Remembering that I tend to visit Ascalon about every day and either give away weapons to low level characters or, even better, look for people doing things like trying to sell something like orange dye for 50 gp and paying 5,000 gp for it-lol.

That is a great idea! I have given lots of stuff away to guild pal's, but most of them now have pretty cool stuff already... I get a new fiery sword or storm bow almost every week. I might start giving this away to low lvl toons. Only prob these days is that many low level toons are pretty well off via their other higher lvl toons. Hmm, where did that John dude go...

That is why I am always on the lookout for low level characters selling junk. I think they are by and large new to the game and can use a helping hand. They, at least, are trying rather than the people just looking for a handout asking for gold. Most of the time they also point out my trade 'mistake' and I tell them it is no mistake.
