Default Major Lagging problems

Well The game doesn't recognize my video card. I also have 256mb memory.

I was wondering if I upgraded the memory to 512mb would that help with the lagging? Or should I just give up since the game doesn't recognize the video card?

The game play was slow when I first started it but it has just gotten worse to the point I can't play it at all anymore.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, whats the memory on your video card? Could you post the make/model, it would help determine. One of my computers has a unrecommended/not recognized video card but it still runs fine.

No doubt adding more memory to your computer will make it run smoothe, a lot smoother if you're at 256k. you can always to Cntrl+alt+delete and end any processes that you dont need which will free up some memory.(If you dont know which ones, post a list here and I can tell ya).

Well as a reference enystar i have run GW on another pc with no lag. It has only got 256Mb ram, onboard(shared) 32Mb video and an AMD XP 1500. Sure i had the graphics way down but it ran smoothly (I also terminated non-essential programs before i played).

The answer is.. a definative maybe.

Adding more RAM is a good Idea if you are running Windows XP. You should have at least 512megs in the first place. I know they tell you at microsoft that 128 megs is the minimum and that 256 is recommended but they're not telling you the whole story. How much RAM you need is application driven.. that means that if you are doing a lot of processing.. (read: not just running MS apps) You'll need a greater amount than what's recommened by MS. 3D gaming is a very resource hungry activity.

Arena says the minimum requirement for their game is 256megs.. 512 is recommended.

Add the RAM and then do this: go to your system properties, click on the advanced tab, click on the settings for performance, on the top of "performance options" click the advanced tab there, at the bottom of the resulting page click on the "change" button for virtual memory. If you have 512meg - set your setting to about 1024 or roughly double your physical RAM.. To do this click the custom size radial button and add the 1024 in the inital size and in the max size fields, then click ok. This should give older graphic cards some breathing room. Make certain you have about a gig or two free on your hardrive before you do this or you may be restricting your usuable harddrive space too much.

You're lucky your card works at all actually. I've had some friends have to install new cards because the demands of Factions was crashing their computers.

Good luck,

Dawn

Video card plays a big role in GW. My laptop has some intergrated crap, and it lags like hell at times even with the lowest graphical settings. My desktop uses a Sapphire Radeon 9250 128 mb vRam, and it runs without lag even with maximum graphic settings. Same RAM, and a .3 ghz difference in CPU.

Big question!!!

Ok, so when i play guild wars after about oh..30 minutes my computer Freezes
this isnt just a lock up or lag, the thing freezes!
i hit Ctrl+Alt+Del but it doesnt do anything
ive waited it out to see if it was tremendous lag..4 hours later nothing!
Ive hit the Start menu button on the pc--left of spacebar...
to see if i could get out of the program but it still doesnt respond...
Then i just hit the restart button and i restart the whole game again..
I checked b4 i started the game and shut off itunes and other big programs to prevent lag but it only delays its countdown to Freeze!!
My thoughts are..
1. server problems or server lag
2. my computers messed up
3. guild wars cant handle my gaming power and uberness!
------------------------
ive switched to a fresh hardrive and it works perfectly.....
Ive got me a retard Computer!!!
