The Olympics

Posted 08-10-2008 at 04:43 PM by Burning Freebies
I am liking the Olympics. Ive even made a list of events that id like to see which are:

*Weightlifting-Ive got into weightlifting but not in this scale. How can someone 63 kg who appears to have little shoulder muscle (which is needed for the lifts) lift 220kg? I could enter the 49 kg (thats how much i weigh) but i wouldnt be able to lift double my bodyweight, which is the requirement.
*100m final-The big race to determine the fastest man on earth. Will Asafa Powell or Usain Bolt win? My guess is:
-Only one of them will make it to the final
-Both will, but they will lose to another competitor
-Bolt will beat his own record

*Athlectics events-The athletics events are my favourite to watch, escpecially sprinting. Marathons are too long and get boring after while. Some of the field events are goo as well.

*Aquatics-Will Britains 14 year old diver make a big splash? Will his 10m syncronised dives get Britain another gold? Or will it be his individual dives?
As for swimming, will America's Micheal Phelps get all his predicted 8 golds, or will Britains Mark Foster stop him?

*Rowing and sculls-A favourite event of mine. Will China's project 119 rowing team impress, or will another country triumph?

*Tennis-Will Britains rising star, seeded 6th in the world, Andy Murray impress, or will it be another battle between top 2 seeds, Swiss Roger Federer or Spanish Rafael Nadal?

*Gymnastics-These people ae truly spectacular. How can they hold themselves in those positions for so long? With China's new project 119 (more below) ruining their human rights records, its no suprise they are doing well.

*Triathlon-I do appreciate people who do marathons, however boring it is to watch. But these people are truly truly spectacular. How can someone swim almost a mile (1500 metres), cycle 40 kilometres then run 10 kilometres in under 2 hours? I dont think i will be able to do that, ever.

Project 119

This is a project set up by the host country China. China are very successful in Table Tennis and Diving. However, the host country has added 20 new people to their team since Greece 2004 olympics. Project 119 is the amount of medals available in all the rowing, atheletics, aquatics, sailing and gymnastics events. China have improved their team by getting them up to world record breaking standard in all of these sports.

Anyway, i hope everyone watching the Olympics enjoys it. I certainly will!
