I disbanded The Crusaders guild today. It's time for a fresh start. While there was a good run with the old guild, there was a lot of hostility too. It's time for a name change and a new way of thinking. With Guild Wars 2, the old mistakes should not be repeated.

I'm probably going to restart a guild in Guild Wars. The purpose of the guild will not be to conquer the world. Instead, it will be a friendly place for this community. The name should match this website, but I haven't decided on a name yet.

• Fist of Photics - Too Aggressive
• Photics Clan - Reminds me too much of Counter Strike.
• Photics - Too plain? What would be the tag? [PHO] [COM] [PH] [PHOT]
• The Photics Guild - That's not too bad [TPG]
• The Photics Alliance - That's OK too [TPA]
• The Photics Fellowship - Is this too soft? I like the alliteration though. [TPF]
• Photics Dot Com - Marketing Power. HA!

Also, I'm thinking of a name that could be used in other games.What if Exteel gets clan support? What if a bunch of us decides to play World of Warcraft again? What if a new MMORPG is released and it's really good? The guild / alliance shouldn't have to be tied to one game.

I can create a main forum for the guild, with sub-forums for specific games. Those sub-forums could be made private, for guild members only.

Make a cool cape this time....

Heh... it will probably be just the black. I don't think it's possible to have a cool looking cape in Guild Wars. Have you ever walked behind a player and thought, "Wow... that's a great cape!" I will look though. With the new name, the guild is not limited to a giant plus sign.

Unless a new cape engine is put in place for GW2, I say we stick with the black one.

I like the clean classic black cape, and sad for the disband of the Crusaders.. I just logged on to post a reply to the GW2 application thread (been to busy lately to come up with an interesting response, otherwise I would have replied earlier)

I have high hopes for GW2, so if you're making a new Guild I'm in. I'm sad to see The Crusaders go, but if you think a re branding would help fix the problems of the old Guild, I'm behind you 100% .. though I wouldn't mind taking over the world

How about The Order of Photics, or the Photics Order? I like the Fist of Photics. Sounds as if we're an army serving the will of Photics. Why isn't that one in the choices? Of the ones available, I like the simple "Photics", extra words are unnecessary unless they add meaning (clan/guild/alliance is implied, therefore redundant)

I liked the Fist of Photics [FoP] as well. But that wasn't a poll option, so I went with The Photics Alliance.

I like Nemi's idea of The Order of Photics too.

Personally, I would have to go with The Photics Fellowship. It gives me a mental image of out characters all standing together about to embark on a long journey. Of course there aren't 9 of us, but still. I think it gives a Lord of the Rings touch to a guild name. Gives it class.

Having been with The Crusaders since it's creation it was quite a shock to log in today and see the guild disbanded. I remember applying for application to join before the first beta and then joining up during the first hours of beta. That was with my Ele Stefanie Delwarner. Back when we didn't have capes as such but those little vesty thingos that were black with a cross on them, still have screenshots of them too . Then being accepted into alpha was a huge joy to be able to play with other guildies whenever was the best. Unfortunately recently due to work commitments i was unable to log on as much as i would have liked. Enough reminiscing anyway

I quite like Nemi's idea too. I'll be making sure i'm down for the new guild in GW2 as well

OK, I think we're getting closer to a decision here. It seems that there are two favorites. "Fist of Photics" and just "Photics".

Heh... the origin of "Fist of Photics" comes from all of those Photics.com product shots. It would be a picture of my hand holding a Guild Wars item. I always felt pretty good getting the new stuff and then sharing those experiences with the Guild Wars community.

The word "Fist" implies strength, so that's good! It also enforces a community theme, which is the point of the reorganization. Together we are an army. I agree with Nemisari... I wouldn't mind taking over the world either. Yet, we did that before. It became the guild's main purpose. When that goal was achieved, the guild crumbled. This time around, the guild should be about the fellowship. I think that's the balance that should be reached. Players want to make friends, but no one wants to join a weak guild.

So OK, here's another question...
Should I start the guild as soon as possible or wait until Groundhog's Day?

I like the old Bill Murry movie, which is basically about doing something over and over again... until you get it right. I think it's a good starting point for the guild, it's great symbolism. Plus, it gives me time to prepare... maybe even make it a guild event. Yes, the cape will probably be black. Maybe I'll pick the fist icon, but make it hidden in the cape. Black-on-Black could work, almost like a watermark.

Nemi, Jizato and Lee... what do you think?

...and Moo, I read your other post. (I deleted it when the guild forum was removed.) I've been rethinking the age requirement. Perhaps 13+ is better than 18+. Maturity is not automatic with age. There are lots of decent players in the 13-18 age range. It is something to be discussed.


Here are the steps to the guild reconstruction...

1. Guild Leaders in this thread decide on a name.
2. I create a new forum based on the name.
3. We discuss the rules of the guild. What should and should not be allowed?
4. The new guild is created.

I agree with the 13+ age limit as well. Even though they wont be in Beta, I still think the 13-18yo members should be able to claim they are in the guild, as they have pledged their loyalty, and will be joining up with us once beta is over

With regards to taking over the world, depending on how large our guild gets (and how large ANet allows us to get) we could have divisions of the guild that are tasked with different objectives, and guild members can choose which section they want to play with based on their mood. For example, If there is faction based PvP like in WoW, where there could be enemies entering zones to make trouble, I'd like to create a sort of Defense Force division to help protect friendly zones. We could also have an attacking division which would invade hostile areas, a division for territory control etc. This way people wont get burnt out while working towards one goal for too long, and would provide variety and structure for members.

Groundhog Day sounds fine by me, gives us a date to look forward to and might attract additional members! Is there a calendar plugin you could set up for the main site? Something like a ticker for upcoming events would be a neat addition to the site.
