The other pc I usually play is an HP that has 256 Ram 64MB Integrated video card etc etc. with a dsl connection.

I load slow , and it gets choppy in high activity areas. On load in a normal area at the start of missions , as you may have noticed from playing with me before you can kill the first group of enemies before I can pretty much move.

I run it in windowed mode. Helps some.

I too run Guild Wars in Windowed Mode. It does seem to run better. Plus, it's faster to switch to other programs.

Ok! Thanks for the info, Photics and Kai. I really appreciate it and im sure my g/f will as well. I will ask her what her video card memory is, and what she is running memory wise in task manager. I'll get back to you with her results as soon as I can.

If you get decent memory you should be ok, but if u want some ownage get a video card too

Lol its funny, i have a Compaq Presario too, and before i upgraded it ,lagged like hell!

Then i got 1gb more RAM bringing it up to 1.25gb, and gw ran pretty fast...

Now with my GeForce 6800 (lol? everyone got samethings as me?!?) GW runs sweetly....

...even better that mine's overclocked!

I wonder when it will be time to upgrade though... I've had it a while now.

Guild Wars ran decently on my old integrated video card. It runs a bit better on my new card, but I can't wait to try it out when I build my new computer (hopefully) in a few months... being limited to a PCI video card really sucks... (yeah, thats PCI, not PCI Express)

I just recently upgraded to 1gb of memory from 512mb, and GW runs a lot better now.

Running GW on anything under 512MB memory is suicide imho

Soon it will be time to ditch my GeForce FX 5200 (the worst video card ever made)

If you're going to look at the memory usage using the Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del) dont only look at how much memory gw is using, take notice of the Commit Charge in the bottom right... if the commit charge is bigger than how much RAM you have, it's going to slow down your computer exponentially.

When I was using 512mb, to make enough space for gw I would often end explorer which would give me about an extra 75mb of free ram (despite what the Task Manager tells you, explorer always uses more memory than is reported)

Just for futher help, I found this site great for testing my PC before thinking about buying a new game, though you will need to download an ActiveX/JAVA browser component so it can scan your computer's hardware...

http://www.srtest.com/referrer/srtest

Also gives you recommendations on what you need to upgrade to if you can't play the game you selected.

I have run GW on an AMD 1500, 256 ram and 32 MB onboard shared video. It ran not as bad as i expected it too. It was actually quite playable. A little laggy when in heavy battles but was still playable. This would have been about 9 months ago though and i'm not sure how Factions would run on it.

Have you made sure the video options in the game are turned right down? You should try this if you haven't already and if it runs better just gradually turn the options up until you find a happy balance between playability and visuals.

Also try the -image in your GW shortcut to uncompress all the files before playing. It will take a while but saves you alot of waiting in game.

If you don't think you can put a video card in without needing to replace the motherboard then i doubt the new ram will be much better. If the motherboard will take new ram however it won't be a loss even if you have to replace the PC as you will already have new ram
