Hey I just got my new Linksys Wireless DSL gateway (WAG54g).

Has anyone got any real life tips for using Wireless 802.11g networks. Seen any issue, got any disaster stories to tell?

I'm real excited, haven't plugged it in yet ... will see how I go when I get home tonight. Will replace my Cisco 827 and switch with an all in one device. Not sure if it was a good move as the Cisco was very stable (just doesn't do ADSL2).

Hopefully it doesn't mess with GW or my Ventrilo when I configure it up.

I have a Linksys G router hooked up to a cable modem, so Im not sure how it would perform hooked up to a DSL modem, but I assume that it would work about the same. Mine works great... most of the time. Every once in a while (about 2-3 times a month - sometimes more, sometimes less), I will have to unplug my router's and modem's power cords, wait about a minute, then plug them back in. After that everything works wonderfully. Until the next time. It doesnt happen enough that I am getting tired of doing it. Sometimes, I just right click on the icon and click on repair and that works too.

So... in my opinion, you shouldnt have too many problems... you might not even have to reset it like I do. :)
In any case, Im sure the new speed from your DSL will more than make up for any problems you might or might not have. Good luck, congrats, and welcome to hi-speed internet. lol :P

I have no complaints with wireless Linksys routers. A few of my neighbours have them, and they work great :P

Make sure to set up your security features. They won't keep the more advanced users off, but it will certainly stop the random passerby.

Don't forget to set a main password for the Linksys as well. You have no idea how many people I have seen running high bit WPA and neglected to change the router password of "admin."

I have the thing all up and running :D

Been very stable ... I'm very happy.

Have set up Wireless with WPA preshared keys. Probably took me 15 mins in all (longest time was installing USB Wireless interface drivers). I have disabled SSID and told the router to only accept connections from specific MAC addresses. I have configured the firewall/NAT for a little port forwarding to my Vent server, am concidering getting a cheap machine and dumping it on a DMZ to host Vent for me.

Otherwise

I certainly hope that addresses security.
