We could always do this, at least we could ever since I started playing playing about a year ago, although it does require that you're the only person using your computer. For those who don't know how . . .

You know how, if you right click on the Guild Wars shortcut in your Start Bar or on your desktop then choose "Properties", the Target is likely:
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"

Simply change the line to read:
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -password=myPassword

Then, not only does it autolog you on every time you start up Guild Wars, but when you quit to the log in screen it autologs you back on to the character selection screen. The best part? You never have to look at those annoying "notices" on the login screen -- if they really wanted us to read them, they'd put them on the character selection screen.

Wow! That actually works and you can add it after the -perf command. Yet, I don't think it's a very secure way to store a saved password. Even though I'm the only person who uses my computer, I don't feel comfortable knowing that my precious Guild Wars characters are a mere right click > properties away from being compromised.

ArenaNet should offer a more secure way to store passwords.

Trust me, there is no secure way to 'store' passwords. If you don't have to enter anything 'private', everything needed to decrypt the password is right there and available for any program/person/trojan to get. On the other hand, there are plenty of keylogger programs to steal your passwords as you type.

Security always comes down to the user....which is scary given your typical user.

They are not insurmountable, but I would prefer for the emphasis to stay on gameplay rather than on an online vending system. If the choice was between hosting an auction and hosting more alliance battles, I'd take the latter.
Yes, but trader NPC's that allow you to trade Collectable Items, Weapons Mods, or even Weapons would be fairly trivial to implement. Use the same UI that the priests of balthazar use to seperate weapons by class or whatever. The issue I have is they've been 'thinking about it' and/or 'working on it' for well over a year.

Heck, I'd probably be less annoyed about it if I didn't have to continously see trade spam in local chat that they never do anything about.

There's a difference between someone who puts a Yellow Sticky on their desk and someone who uses a USB security stick. Both are forms of storing passwords. One is obviously more secure than the other. Having the password stored in some encrypted form is better than plain text.

Although, I can see your point. If someone has direct access to the computer, they could do all sorts of malevolent things.

There might not be a perfect system for protecting stored passwords, but encryption is infinitely better than none at all. Most likely it would prevent 99% of people who would want to steal your password.

Almost anyone would be able to find your password with the current method
