That's a great post, but I'm not trying to be the best at Hero Battles. It used to be my way to relax after a long day. But wow, it's too intense now. Being in the top 1000 is hard work. Sure, there are rewards to be won, but I would feel bad about collecting those rewards. My relationship to ArenaNet is too close. I don't need to win Guild Wars prizes. They already send me lots of free stuff. HA! My heart is not in this victory.
I'm just quietly preparing for Guild Wars 2. The Crusaders will rise again. That is what I'm waiting for. Izzy was on last night. He's a dev. I was breaking his chops. I said something like, "After all these years, you finally listened to me." That's exactly the way I see it. If I was building Guild Wars, it would look more like GW2 than GW1. We're heading towards the golden era of Guild Wars.
The four goalie build was to point out the oddity of Guild Wars PvP. That's no longer necessary, as the game is on the road to success... if ArenaNet truly learned from the past.
Looking at TANK's rank, it tells you something. Roughly 30,000 players tried Hero Battles since the ladder was released. That's not a very high number, especially considering that Guild Wars is essentially a free MMORPG. Hero Battles is actually pretty good, but I think too many players moved on already. Starting from scratch is a great way to recharge the community.
Meanwhile, some title farming is fun. If your main goal is to max out the commander rank, staying at the top is difficult. In a short amount of time, you can easily throw your rank low enough to collect some easy wins.
Which fansites went away after Factions? Aren't all of the major fansites still around. Although, now that there's an
official Guild Wars Wiki, I don't know what's going to happen to GuildWiki.
