A Guild Wars Prize... 5% Complete!

You might have noticed some improvements at Photics.com. Forum posts and user accounts from nearly two years ago have been restored. There's a new place to chat, allowing for real-time dialogue. Plus, the forum has been redesigned and relaunched with blogging software. The tools are in place for a great community to grow.

These new features calls for a promotion. Yet, I wasn't content with giving away a t-shirt or a Guild Wars game code. After the time and money invested in the improvment of this website, something more significant is in order. After carefully pondering the possibilities, I thought of an adorable idea. The prize would be so rare that could be considered priceless. The prize would be so precious that the greatest drawback could be giving it away.

However, this prize would be illegal without approval from ArenaNet. In one of her final acts as Community Relations Manager, Gaile Gray wrote back to me and she gave the OK for the creation of the prize. It would make this competition even more significant. For years I worked with Gaile Gray. The news of her farewell party was a shock. Yet, her legacy as Community Relations Manager ends well. When I started participating in the fansite program, I was not expecting to give away a prize such as this.

What is this prize? What is being created?

That is up to you to guess! Know that the prize is 5% complete and that I'm really excited about it. My friends, Guild Wars 2 is on the horizon and this fansite is preparing to be part of the excitement.

An almost illegal prize eh? Sounds promising!

So.. how does one go about acquiring said promotional prize, and when will it be finished?!

You don't have to pretend. Instead, you should be proud.

For everyone else, here's the story...

I was hanging out in the Photics Chat room when I mentioned that I was working on a new contest / competition idea for the site. Nemi asked for more details. I told him that if I shared the details of the contest / competition, it would disqualify him from entering. Nemi carefully pondered the situation. The suspense got to him. Knowing this unknown became more important than winning the prize. Nemi chose the path of knowledge.

His choice worked out for the benefit of the community!

When I informed Nemi of my master plan, he became intrigued. He offered suggestions. It made the project even better. He found what seems to be the perfect place for the precious prize. I wouldn't recommend pestering Nemi about this issue. He's not permitted to share the secret!

So Nemi, if you really want to know the details, we can take this conversation to Private Messages. But right now, it's time to build suspense. This prize seems like it's going to be awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing it completed, but not looking forward to giving it away.

Well Jizato, how intrigued are you? Do you want to know what I'm planning, but be disqualified? See, there's another part to this story. I've been considering adding moderators to this site, maybe as soon as this week! I think that you'd make an excellent moderator, but a site moderator could not enter this competition.

Know that being a moderator is a volunteer thing. Don't expect compensation! Plus, the contest should be announced eventually. Would you want to miss out on a chance to win an unknown prize?

This prize is very unique. As mentioned earlier, this prize is effectively priceless. I personally guarantee two things:

Whoever wins this prize will not be disappointed
I will be insanely jealous of the winner

I'm really looking forward to seeing the completed prize!

Hmm... Do I want to join the staff of Photics, or have a chance to win "what's in the box"...

Hello people! It's been a long time.

This competition is intriguing. But you know... all free things are priceless. Just kidding. I'm looking forward to know what it is, even when the chances of me winning are 0.

Want an advice, Jizato? You could take part in the contest and become a moderator after it's finished. Unless Photics wouldn't allow for this plan to happen, in which case you have a tough choice to make.

OK Jizato! If you're willing to walk away from a chance at the mystery prize, that's the kind of loyalty that is worty of a new title - "Realm Guard".

I was playing with the forum settings last weekend. It needs some more testing, but I think the site is ready for volunteer moderators. Jizato, it looks like you're going to be the first moderator at the Photics Forums.
