Think you can make the WiKi better? List your suggestions here :)
I think we need a section for important NPCs ... I'd like to have information about the NPC who makes Deldrimor Steel and list the armor crafter outside of "The Wilds", but there currently isn't a category to do this
I suggest a category for "Important NPCs" or something similar

Probably the best way to make the wiki better would be to close it and move all unique content to a more established Guild Wars wiki, like GuildWiki at http://www.zerolives.org/guildwars/index.php/Main_Page .
Creating seperate wikis for Guild Wars only slows everyone down. Please end this duplication of effort and focus on something already established.

If I told you that you should stop making a Guild Wars Fansite because one already existed... would that sound logical? :/
Photics.com is one of the original Guild Wars fanstes. Yet... I would never make such a comment towards new fansites. Photics.com was the first site to have a skill listing. Other site have followed. I say good for them! Your use of Guild Wars content falls under the terms of the Guild Wars Fansite Program. That means you can display certain Guild Wars content on your website, but you do not have exclusivity.
I'll leave your link & your post though... as I am not in competition with you. The Crusaders and friends have taken a liking to this project. We're having fun with our Wiki.

I respect Photics.com dearly; it's my favorite fansite on the web. While it doesn't have volumes of content, the content it does have is unique and useful. For the same reason, I don't respect many of the newer, smaller fansites, because they simply copy much information from other sites in a non-extensible way.
Wiki is a different media than typical fansite. Where multiple fansites can be useful for different things, only one broad wiki is needed, and any more detract from all of them. It is a collaborative work -- the more who work on it, the better it becomes. When multiple wikis exist, each is far smaller than one could be, and all grow very slowly.
I sounded more hostile than I intended to be, and I apologize for that. However, I still believe that creating an additional wiki was shortsighted and anti-community. I think you'll cause more harm than good with it.
I think I'm in a fair position to say this; I started my own wiki around the same time GuildWiki formed. I actually had more content than GuildWiki did. However, when I saw GuildWiki, I began the process of merging the wiki I started with it. It made more sense that way. The new, combined wiki is now greater than the sum of its parts. I'd have suggested to GuildWiki that they do the same with yours, because you have the ability to garner exposure much faster than we do, but the software behind your wiki is underpowered (as far as I can tell; you seem to be maintaining indexes by hand, so I assume there's no category support like MediaWiki has) and/or different compared to MediaWiki, which the previous two used.
Fact is, just the existance of your wiki has stopped some of our contributors, because they know that what they write will only reach a segmented part of the intended audience now. You are in competition with us, and it is needless.
I urge the Crusaders and friends to continue working on a wiki, as the format is ideal for this game. However, I further urge that you focus these efforts on ours, or consider changing the format of your own so that we are compatable. Otherwise, the entire community is shortchanged, and neither wiki will ever be what it could.
(On a side note, I do appriciate you leaving my post intact. That is more than what other fansite forums did.)

Competition encourages growth and diversity.
Down with monopolistic Wikis! :)

When there is only a single Wiki, and someone comes along knowing something that they want to put in the Wiki, but they see that someone has already said what they want, but it's not exactly their words, they just drop their idea of adding to the Wiki. They think, "Oh, someone already thought of this, so there's no need for me to add what I know." This is why there should be many different Wiki's, so the person can get several different points of view about a single topic, and possibly add their own p.o.v about the topic. Besides, I like posting material that is new to the site, it makes me feel like a closer member of the fansite community.

Here's the index...
http://forum.photics.com/doku.php?do=index&id=guildwars
I think the system here is actually the best around. You only need one user ID for both the Wiki and the forum. The Wiki is based off of DokuWiki, which has a higher rating at "opensourcecms"...
http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.p...388&Itemid=143
DokuWiki 4.94 out of 5
MediaWiki 4.46 out of 5
DokuWiki is the highest rated wiki listed there. If it looks like this system is underpowered, it's probably because we're still learning how to use it. ;)
The Photics.com GuildWarsWiki started because users complained about the former Skill Listing Thread. There was no way to sort the thread alphabetically. It was very confusing to see which skills were already posted. Because there were hundreds of skills, it was difficult to find useful information. Yet, users wanted to post their findings. The pundokuwiki was implemented as a way to resolve that problem. It's working out nicely. The additional content was added because the community itself wanted to add it. I was only looking to add an organized skill listing.

What do mean change the format? :/
I don't see what's wrong with our Wiki. Actually, I think our wiki is pretty awesome. :D
If you want to join our Wiki, you're welcome to join our volunteer project. Yet, I'd rather you and your team continue with your own. I think you should make better use of your energy. Instead of telling me to join your Wiki - which is not going to happen - why not write to Gaile Gray and get your website listed on the community page? Why not get your fansite the popularity it needs to be a better Guild Wars Wiki. Why not familiarize yourself with the terms of the fansite program and then take your website to the next level?
In the meantime, we're slowly turning those red links into green links. :D
