Photics - Guild Wars Edition - Issue #34
Issue #34 of Photics - The Guild Wars Edition - is a synopsis of all the exciting changes to the Guild Wars franchise. After a Winter with almost zero Guild Wars news, Spring 2007 has been an explosion of information. Guild Wars is changing into a true MMORPG. The fate of Gwen should be revealed soon. Meanwhile, the current chapters of Guild Wars are undergoing dramatic changes. Hard Mode & Hero Battles bring new levels of difficulty to the game. Does this sound overwhelming? Issue #34 aims to sort out the confusion. Issue #34 is available in Flash Paper or PDF formats. Visit Adobe.com if you do not have the Flash Player or the Adobe Reader installed on your computer.

Nice issue. I liked the Asura code and shroud of silence gag! I agree to most of those statements. But the actual guild statement of what is GVG in guild wars I would have to disagree. Most guilds are only about 20-30 people. And sometimes the people are not on all the time. So What if one guild pumped out 9 people for one gvg and hit the button, and found themselves facing a group of 20? I think it would wind up being whoever has the most in one guild is the highest on the ladder, and the small ones are on the bottom. And people would want to join the highest ranked guilds, so then the small guilds would disperse and only big ones remain, and the little ones are always floundering and fighting, and the big ones always have power. It would be a bit like todays business situation, doesn't work. The one we have now are a load of smallish guilds fighting on top of each other dog-eat-dog style, the way it should be. Although world vs world does add a new twist

From what I understand of World PvP, it sounds a lot like Realm vs Realm warfare - Dark Age of Camelot. That game was awesome. Sure, if you had a large guild, you'd do a lot better. But if you didn't have a large guild, you could still do some damage. Just level up a stealth class and just kill from the shadows. Healing classes were often popular too, regardless of your Guild.

Hahahaha, love the affair part!! Realm versus Realm from Dark Age of Camelot has ALWAYS been what I wanted in Guild Wars. It's one of the only things that keeps me playing Dark Age of Camelot. If they can put it into Guild Wars successfully, I have a feeling I'll be canceling my account. I mean, a lot of DAoC's RvR has to do with gear. In Guild Wars, gear doesn't matter and with RvR in GW I'm hoping that I'll actually be able to play.
Good job Photics, nice to see you back to the light side!

I'm worried about the timing though. Right now, World of Warcraft is ruling with an iron fist. Yet, Lord of the Rings Online, Age of Conan and Warhammer are adding competition to this market. I'm particularly concerned about Warhammer. It's a strong franchise, with Realm vs Realm combat. Why are players going to wait for Guild Wars 2 when these games should be out first? Is ArenaNet aiming for a window of opportunity in 2009? What's Blizzard going to be doing during all this, twiddling their thumbs?

Good question. I think ArenaNet will come up with something. And Blizzard, They'll come out with something utterly devastating to the market, like Diablo 3 or something. Lord of the Rings online will get a strong market, and Warhammer will either slowly Build support, or slowly drop it. It all depends, everything is slowly going mmo.
