In the console wars, it looks as if the PS3 is in third. The Wii is selling like crazy and the XBOX 360 has an incredible head start. Yet, is the battle just beginning?
I've lost the desire to buy an XBOX 360. The best content ends up on the PC anyway - including XBOX Live. I mean really... even though the XBOX 360 is mighty, my PC delivers graphics that is just as good.
Meanwhile, I'm starting to get disappointed with my Wii. For one, I hate having to feed it batteries. Wireless controllers are neat, but I always get mad when dying batteries stop the action. The power meter is not accurate either. It will show full power one day, and then it will be dead the next. Also, where are the games? I am totally unmotivated by the list of current games. The list of future games is also disheartening. When I look at screenshots, the wimpy graphics power of the Wii shows. A large part of the problem is online gameplay, which is weakpoint for the Wii.
At the Game Developers Conference, Sony announced "Home" for the PS3. It basically looks like XBOX Live mated with the Mii Channel, and the offspring is quite sexy! Also, LittleBigPlanet cuts into Nintendo's domain with "cutesy" gameplay. I wasn't really phased by this, but then I spotted the new Penny Arcade Comic...

Does this change things for the PS3? I don't know. There's still that $600 price tag. Plus, it looks like Micropayments are a big part of Home. I hate Micropayments. I prefer to keep my video games and my credit card information separate. Price is a huge deterrent for me. What about you? Is there a PS3 in your future?
