In the Animation and Collaboration forum, a simple question was posed - Collaboration or Competition? Sitting on my floor is an unopened copy of Guild Wars: Nightfall. What am I going to do with this $80 masterpiece? I decided to see if you would fight over it - in a battle of better building. It was up to the community to decide. Would there be another web game competition? Yet, a decision couldn't be reached. The final vote was a tie. The community was torn between friendship and personal glory. Inspired by an old Guild Wars quote, I decided that we should try working together.
"We can fight alone, but our strength is many times greater as comrades in arms when we fight together."
Matthew Resendiz presented a third option. He already won some prizes in the 2006 Photics.com Web Game Design Competition. This time around, he decided to make a game just for the fun of it. The results are simply adorable. Gwen's Rock, Paper, Scissors, Challenge is now available in the Photics Arcade.
You'll need to register for the forums to play. Don't worry, registration is free.
The arcade has high scoring and you can even challenge other forum members directly. This could be an interesting way to settle disputes! Remember, Paper covers Rock, Scissors cut Paper and Rock smashes Scissors. When you look at MMORPGs, you'll see that their PvP game balance often boils down to a version of this ruleset.
For example, you might see different types of weapons, such as Swords (Scissors) or Hammer (Rock). These weapons might have bonuses vs. different types of armor. Developers call this "Balance". I call it rock, paper, scissors!
