I’m in NYC, what I consider ground zero for the current financial crisis. Bad banks, high unemployment, foreclosures, fraud, cash for clunkers, oh my! It’s a tough environment for an honest gamer. I just don’t get it. These are the same streets, the same people, but for some reason lots of people are in a bad mood. They’re worried about spending money, which only perpetuates the problem. The gaming industry is important for business. Excitement for new games drives console and computer sales. That puts people to work, which helps the economy. So let’s get excited! Let’s make life fun again! But of course, we’ll start slow. Here are some inexpensive game ideas for cost conscious consumers.

Online games are microcosms of society. With February 14 drawing near, it is not unusual to see Valentine’s Day celebrations in virtual worlds. Yet, Cryptic Studios and NCsoft is taking the holiday to an extreme. Manticore & Sister Psyche, two heroes from City of Heroes, are getting married. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare was not the easiest gaming experience of my life. First I had to prove my age, and then I had to battle with technical issues. Is CoD4 really worth the trouble, considering the glut of First-Person Shooters on the market? In a word – MAYBE!

Who doesn’t love giant, dual-wielding, mechanized, robots? Exteel is loaded with mechanized warfare. The instant I held down both mouse buttons, I laughed loudly. Gleefully I held down the triggers, firing rounds into a crate. But wait, there’s more! In Exteel, you get to fight against other giant robots!

I’d like to say that Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare was the greatest game that I ever played. Unfortunately, I can’t do that. I can’t even play the game at all. After messing around for hours, trying to get the game to work, I’ve given up. At first, I thought it was my computer. After doing some research online, it seems that I’m not the only one with CoD4 technical difficulties.
