Do you think the warrior is the best first time character? What are your thoughts on a warrior/necromancer? I want to be semi evil.

People always ask this, and I always reply, "It depends on your playing style."
If you like to thoughtlessly charge into combat, relying on your ability to withstand huge amounts of damage, Warrior is the starter class for you. I don't know how complementary Necromancer would be to warrior as a secondary, though I do see how vampiric touch could come in really handy. Warrior/Monk is the most common warrior build that I've seen around For PvE, I really like Elementalist because they can take out large groups of mobs quickly. For raw one-on-one combat, though, Warrior is unequaled.

i'd say elementalist is the best starting profession...u wont have to worry about anything except for doing direct damage to ur enemies.
elementalist/necro wouldn't be bad at all

the problem with newbie warriors is that they rush out to any monster they see. so maybe for the newbie it's a good character to start with (easy skills, lotta defense) but i think for the rest of the world it would be better if newbies started with some ranged stuff, a markmanship ranger or indeed an elementalist would be best imo.

Warrior is not as easy as it seem, the simplest is really ranger ( sniper style). Because fighter have to manege the enemy's aggro which is not really easy to do.

I just started, as a warrior.
I think it works because I can explore pre-searing and learn of the monsters, interface etc within a safe (strong defense wise). If the first few times I go out I get killed right away it would be annoying and frustrating. Also, it is easier to understand an axe than the use of a spell.
Within 3 days I created an elemental. By then I know the map somewhat, I know the monsters around, I know the missions and interface. Now I can concentrate more on spells, mana/energy, etc and not so much on the mechanics of the game.
So the warrior lets you explore the game and the interface without too much worry on the char. Once you have that down, you can concentrate more on the chars and not the mechanics.

"Atretes Bar Darkon" is my Warrior/Necro. The Necromancer side of him is not all bad though, as when a group is in a hard press from Ettins, Tengu, and Muguuma, a quick cast (or a few quick casts) of "well of Blood" has saved the group many times.
It is always good to use "Life Siphon" and a parasite spell to weaken adversaries before and during attacks. It is important for the Warrior primary to remember that his primary function is to "Tank". That is, keep as many of the foe pounding on him, while the "Nukers" (elementalists) do their max-damage, and the Necro's raise up Bone fiends, horrors, and minions to do the light work of foe harassment, and the Monks heal and smite - Rangers should have already laid the traps and aggro'd the mobs.
The only one better at Tanking in the later game is the Monk, who can really take a licking and keep on ticking, if he has the right build and Elite skill.
For bringing new players through the early missions though, there is no better profession than a primary Warrior. With the Necro second, a level 16 Warrior is pure FUN back there.

Warrior is always the easiest class to play on all games to date. Because they have many HP and defense. It takes more time to bring down a warrior. Just as simple.
Only after you played a warrior and learned how to deal with aggro mobs, pulling, etc.. you should pick another class. Im GW, I believe that the order (from easiest to hardest) should go like:
Warrior -> Monk -> Ranger -> Elementalist/Necro -> Mesmer.
And, for the secondary class the choices go like
Monk: adds endurance, keeps Alesia on the team for the entire mission/quest.
Elementalist/Necro: adds range and Area Damage.
Ranger: pets and bows can potentially complete any other class. But I believe the ranger are the most underused class as secondary.
Mesmer: If you like to ruin somelse's day with loads of pesky hexes, thats your pick.
Thats why you see loads of "paladins" (W/Mo). They are - by far - the easiest class to finish the game.

I think that warriors are extremely difficult to play. As a warrior, you're in the center of the action. You are usually the point guy who is responsible for calling targets and making decisions on aggro, but your proximity to the combat makes it difficult to zoom out and take a bird's eye assessment of the situation. In contrast, when I am using my Ele, I can constantly scan the field, looking for new threats that have entered the fray and checking on my comrades' status. Many times have I rescued the monk from certain death only to have the warrior show up at a full sprint just as the danger has passed. They always mumble things like, "Sorry... I was busy taking down that warrior boss."
The other thing that makes life difficult for warriors is that the adrenaline system makes running from fight to fight without a pause a very attractive option for warriors. This is completely the opposite of how it works for any other class. In a good party, a bad warrior is certain to die because the elementalists and monks will refuse to charge after the dimwit until their energy is back up to acceptable levels. This doesn't happen very much in the early game, but I see it a lot from Kryta onwards.
The reason you see loads of "paladins" is that people know better than to bring them into their parties, so they all just hang out in town waiting for some unsuspecting noob group to take them in :P Everyone else is out on the missions :)
If you want the ability to take lots of punishment or if you want to run through areas by yourself without stopping to fight, warrior is the class for you. The answer to the question as to whether warrior is the easiest class to play is the same as for any other class: it depends on your style of play and your preferences.

You really don't like pallies do you?
I say is easy to finish the game with them, because, as a W/Mo, I was able to - more than once - get out from a sticky situation, bring the whole team back to life and finish the mission. I usually bring smite hex and mend ailment for missions, so, the monk can focus on healing and I can help the team by removing negative status.
Having a limited view of the battlefield is a fact. But not completely a drawback. I like the "close-up and personal" approach...staring the foe at the eyes..melee is my game.
Staying in the backrow shooting/blasting/supporting is fun also. Its a more strategic style of play. As a warrior you just want to clobber anything that moves :)
