Once again, I was awoken by the pulsing blue light of the Wii Slot Illuminator. Nintendo has launched their own channel on the Wii. It's basically a superior marketing tool. Get all your Nintendo propaganda straight from the source. Don't get me wrong, I like this new channel. It may be promotional material from Nintendo, but it's brightly colored and cheerful promotional material.
I enjoyed watching an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto this morning. He explains the logic behind Wii Fit. It was an entertaining video. There's lots of other stuff to watch too. And if you anonymously share your gaming information with Nintendo, you can download Nintendo DS demos.
Here's the message that I received from Nintendo...
Nintendo would like to announce the launch of the new Nintendo Channel, which is now available as a free download in the Wii Shop Channel.
The Nintendo Channel allows you to search and review the latest product information on software titles for both Wii and the Nintendo DS. Additional features allow you to download demos of DS software to your Nintendo DS, and a polling feature will tabulate user opinions, making it easier to search for games that are best suited for you.
Hopefully Nintendo thinks beyond Marketing with this channel, as it could be really fun. I imagine a true Nintendo Channel, with Super Mario & Zelda cartoons. I don't think I'll be using this channel often if it's just basically advertising.
