Crossy Road Castle is launching on Consoles (Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One) later this month. Having already experienced the adventure on Apple Arcade, Photics is in unique situation. The Crossy Road Castle Playlist on Photics.TV has one of the most (if not THE most) comprehensive information about the game on the Internet.
To promote those high-quality videos, it seemed fitting to expand the “Data” section of this website. Now there’s a Crossy Road Castle Characters List webpage. It contains a searchable table of Crossy Road Character information, similar to the Crossy Road Character List.
There are two problems though. First, Hipster Whale picked a rather unusual launch date — September 11. A game about towers is launching on September 11? That’s not a good idea.
There’s the possibility that Hipster Whale (being in Australia) is targeting International Video Games Day, which is September 12, but their marketing says September 11. In the highly competitive space of platform gaming, this is an unforced error.
That leads to the second problem. I’m not seeing enough hype surrounding this game. Nintendo didn’t cover it in their Indie World Showcase + Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase double feature. Also, where are the YouTubers covering this game? It’s disappointing to see lists of Nintendo games launching in September, but Crossy Road Castle is absent.
That’s been a dilemma of this website since near the early days of its creation. Should the website focus on video game news and video game strategy guides or should it focus on making games and other projects? There are issues with either direction, which is why there have been experiments with both.
But this, could anything be more definitive? 🤔
With having a head start of several years, the Photics.TV Crossy Road Castle content is special. It’s some of the best work on the channel. Yet, if the videos are little more popular than a carpet sweeper, then why bother?
It was disappointing to see games like Star Trek: Legends or TRANSFORMERS: Tactical Arena fizzle out on Apple Arcade. I cancelled my subscription to that gaming service. Crossy Road Castle is the main game I miss. After the final “Rainbow Rift” tower, it seemed like a nice way goodbye. Now with the console launch, there’s a new excitement surrounding the game — but shouldn’t there be even more excitement?
There are other ideas of what to do next with Photics, but it’s been tough to get motivated. These are not simple ideas. However, if yet another amazing game underperforms, then perhaps Photics should be aimed towards other projects.
