It’s not every day I get to see the pulsing blue light from my Wii. The slot indicator let me know that something was up. The novelty of Wiimail has worn off, so I knew it wasn’t a message from my Online Friends. What could Nintendo be up to? I turned on my Wii to find out. I had a new message from Nintendo. Here’s what it said…
Wii Remote Jacket Accessory
Nintendo has announced the Wii Remote Jacket, which will now be included with all Wii hardware systems and separately sold Wii Remotes. This Accessory provides cushioning for the Wii Remote for people who might accidentally throw or drop it while playing games. For owners who purchased their Wii products prior to this addition, Nintendo is offering free Wii Remote Jackets for their existing Wii Remotes. Thank you!
According to a Nintendo Press release, hardware featuring the Wii Remote Jacket will begin shipping to retailers on Oct. 2 and is expected to be on retail shelves the week of Oct. 15. If you already have a Wiimote, you can call 1-866-431-8367 to place an order for the free Wii Remote Jacket or you can visit wii.com / nintendo.com. They should begin shipping in about two weeks.
“We’re always looking for ways to improve our products and make sure everyone has a safe and fun experience,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “Many electronics manufacturers provide similar protective covers for products like cell phones, PDAs and MP3 players.”
