NCwest Is Hiring A Mobile Application Developer

It must be coincidence. I was just working on another mobile app when I heard my Thunderbird alert sound. I was a bit groggy. The physics on my next game are a bit tougher than I imagined. So, I switched over to my PC and I checked my messages. There were two hits from the NCsoft North American Job Feed. One was a listing for a Software Engineer (for the Web). Cool, but those jobs are expected. But the other one, that was a bit surprising to me – Mobile Application Developer. It seems that Guild Wars and their other franchise buddies are venturing into iPhone land.

ArenaNet Jobs – Character Artist and Junior Writer/Editor

Not too long ago, I was in Gunnar’s Hold. That’s nothing new. I’m there a lot. What was unusual was the dialogue. The outpost was filled with conversation about Guild Wars 2. Some of it was negative. If I remember correctly, I saw the word “Vaporware” used to describe the sequel. Who knows? Maybe GW2 will join Duke Nukem in a series of indefinite postponements. But a quick glance of the ArenaNet job listings makes me highly skeptical of such a possibility. Just last week, two new “contract” jobs were posted… Character Artist and Junior Writer/Editor. Not only is this an excellent opportunity for an aspiring game developer, this is reassurance that ArenaNet is working hard on the sequel.

Netflix, Available on the Wii This Spring

According to a recent announcement from Nintendo and Netflix, the Wii will join the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3 in the ranks of Netflix enabled game consoles. Sometime in the Spring, you should be able to slide a Netflix disk into your Wii. That will enable you to watch thousands of “Instant Download” movies and TV shows. Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime states, “The Wii console is the social hub around which friends and family members gather to play games and have fun. Soon both new and longtime Wii owners will enjoy the benefits of Netflix – and a variety of informational and entertainment options – by being Netflix members and connecting their consoles to the Internet.”

New Super Mario Bros Wii Review

With Super Mario Galaxy, my interest in Nintendo’s classic series started to wane. I just didn’t see how the game could get much better. It was starting to feel so repetitive. Soon after clearing Super Mario Galaxy, I wasn’t obsessive about finding every last secret. But two years later, I wandered into Best Buy. That’s where I would find new excitement for the franchise. On display was the New Super Mario Bros Wii. The game went retro. It’s the traditional 2D style controls, tempered with modern graphics. Oh, and four people can play at the same time. Those seemingly minor additions added life to a 24 year old game.

January 11, 2010 Nintendo Downloads – WiiWare, Virtual Console and DSiWare Updates

Wow, I haven’t done one of these updates in a long time. But during the holiday season, Nintendo released some great games to their downloadable library. I recently purchased Blaster Master. While the game didn’t impress me, not like it did back in the 80’s, it did help to get me back into the routine. Nintendo likes to update their library on Mondays, so I decided to check out the latest updates. The DSi picked up some some casual games, like Solitaire, Billiards and Word Search. Meanwhile, the WiiWare library was updated with Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. You might recognize the iconic fingerpointing. It has become a popular Internet Meme.
