Alternatives to Netflix

Thumbnail - Delete NetflixWhat happened Netflix? I used to be a big fan, but then you got greedy. In less than a year, I watched the price almost double. It was $8.99 for 1-DVD rental and Instant Streaming. Now those two services have been split up — costing $7.99 each. Unfortunately, I don’t think either service is strong enough to be separated. Receiving DVDs by mail is a slow process and Netflix’s Instant Streaming library is weak. At $15.98, the alternatives start to look a lot better.

Guild Wars 2 Commando – Unfortunate Fiction

Guild Wars 2 - Commando - Thumbnail ImageGuild Wars 2 is one of the most beautiful video games that I’ve ever seen. Yet, I have zero desire to play it… none… zip… zilch! I’m so far away from Guild Wars right now that my main computer is a Mac. And yet, I saw something from ArenaNet that actually excited me — the Guild Wars 2 “Commando” profession. Now obviously, it’s an April Fool’s Joke. When the calendar hit 4/1/2011, I knew to limit my Internet activity. There’s just too much miss information out there. But 21 days later, I discovered ArenaNet’s little jest. The sad thing is that the joke is on ArenaNet. This is what their game should have been.

Why Dan Is Wrong About Game Center

Game Center Thumbnail - Why Dan Is Wrong About Game CenterYou know, I don’t really have time for this. I’m supposed to be busy building BOT. Yet, I read something that really annoyed me. It was an article by Dan Frommer. He’s a Senior Staff writer for The Business Insider. He mainly writes articles about Apple. I like the site and I generally like reading his articles. But yesterday, he had an article published on CNN that I felt was a bit unprofessional. It was entitled – Apple’s Three Biggest Weaknesses. I’m not a blind fanboy. Critiques are important for growth, but the words about Game Center didn’t seem to be in accordance with journalistic standards.

Nintendo 3DS — A Surprising Disappointment

Nintendo 3DS - Thumbnail ImageNintendo World is one of my favorite places in New York City. I was in the neighborhood today, so I thought I’d checkout the new Nintendo 3DS. It’s the latest portable gaming system from Nintendo. The main feature is that it has three-dimensional effects, but without the need for special glasses. This is not something that can be photographed or recorded by conventional means. I had to see the device with my own eyes. After having done so, I’m surprisingly disappointed. The 3DS just wasn’t that impressive to me.

Angry Birds and Super Bowl XLV

Angry Birds - ThumbnailMy background has more to do with marketing than sports. So naturally, I’ll be watching the Super Bowl for the commercials. That’s especially true with a recent update to Angry Birds. During the fourth-quarter of the Super Bowl, there will be a commercial for the movie Rio — an animated film from the creators of Ice Age. According to the 1.5.1 update, that commercial will have information to help unlock a secret level of Angry Birds. So while millions will be watching for the outcome of the Pittsburgh Steelers versus Green Bay Packers, I’ll be looking out for the level unlock information.
