Nicholas The Traveler – Roaring Ether Hearts

week-38-traveler-thumbnailWeek 38 of Nicholas The Traveler’s scavenger hunt was a bit nostalgic for me. I remember fighting elemental monsters in the Mirror of Lyss. Back in the day, I was farming points for the Lightbringer Title. For each slain Djinn or Roaring Ether equaled, I was two points closer to my title. That’s why I was pleased with this week’s item – Roaring Ether Hearts.  A lot of people seem suspicious when I tell them that I’ve been playing Guild Wars for almost six years. (I started in February 2004.) But it’s true, just go back into the archives of this website. The years just seem to fly by. If you go back to May of 2007, you’ll see some familiar territory.

Nicholas The Traveler – Gold Doubloons

week-37-traveler-thumbnailWeek 37 of Nicholas The Traveler’s scavenger hunt brought me to Nightfall territory. It’s amazing how many forgotten corners there are in Tyria. If not for Nicholas, I might never have seen them. Oh sure… it’s the usual click… click… click… kill, just like anywhere else in the game; but there’s something about these weekly adventures that brings Guild Wars to a new level. There’s lore, there’s loot and there’s opportunity. I’m seeing new places and making new friends… in a game that I’ve been playing for almost six years. Anyway, I’m not here to get nostalgic. This article is about how to complete this week’s objective – Gold Doubloons in the Barbarous Shore.

-Character Argument Added to the Guild Wars Command Line

aura-of-restorationIf you checked the latest Guild Wars update notes, you might be confused. It said… Added support for “-character” command line argument, allowing players to automatically fill the security question field in the client …but what does that mean? Basically, it’s possible to set Guild Wars to auto-load your login information. You click your Guild Wars shortcut… and boom… you’re sent to the character select screen. You won’t have to type your email, your password or your security question. This can take the tedium out of ArenaNet’s new security measures. But in doing so, you might add a new vulnerability.

Getting Ready for the 2009 Wintersday Party

tank-the-ranger-thumbnailSo yeah, I deleted TANK again. I decided that going for the Defender of Ascalon title is just too insane. Death leveling just feels wrong. So instead, I turned him into a Ranger. I’m going for the Survivor title… again. It seems a lot harder as a Ranger. I’m having trouble getting over the Shiverpeak mountains, but this is a mission that I must complete. I’ve been cordially invited to attend the 2009 Wintersday festivities. With over two weeks of extra loot, this is a perfect opportunity to farm titles. Therefore, I want to get to Kilroy’s Punch-Out Extravaganza.  That means I have to make it to Lion’s Arch, and then travel over to the Eye of the North expansion.

Guild Wars – Red Alert – Hack Attack!

endure-painWhen you launch the Guild Wars application, you can see important messages from ArenaNet. Typically, the weekend event is the main highlight. The message box can also includes a warning about proper game etiquette. The message is usually something minor, but today it was not. There appears to have been a major breach of security. An ominous warning, highlighted in red, informed me that I should change my password today. Upon further investigation, it seems that a fansite might have been compromised. I had a feeling that this would happen someday. By cracking the weaker security of a fansite, hackers could harvest user names and passwords from Guild Wars players. Since many players do not use unique passwords, their Guild Wars account is vulnerable.
