Hurricane Hermine Inspired Game Development

Hurricane Hermine - Labor Day Weekend Forecast Labor Day weekend is when people across the United States enjoy the last few days of Summer. While Fall doesn’t start until September 22, most people go back to work or school after the holiday weekend. Celebrations usually involve backyard barbecues or long days at the beach. But with Hurricane Hermine looming up the East Coast, it’s looking like a wet and windy mess for much of the break. So, I decided to turn it into a super-nerdy weekend. I decided this was the perfect moment to work on B.R.O.O.M.

Free Template Tuesday #8 – Tumult Hype “FPS” (Part II)

The previous FPS project used a significant amount of CPU power. On my Mac mini, approximately 12.5% CPU power was used for the FPS gauge and text display. That drain on the processor significantly skews the performance numbers. The original project was intentionally left flawed and unfinished. The idea was to encourage Hype users to improve their programming skills. But since no one seems to have taken on the challenge, I decided to improve the template by myself.

Free Template Tuesday #7 – Tumult Hype “Capitals”

While perusing the Tumult Forums, someone was having trouble with animated buttons. The idea was to animate the active button, then return to the previous state when not active. Hype can do that! To show how that’s done, I started working on another free Hype template. The end result is a project that grew larger than expected. If you’re looking for a way to create quizzes, the “United States Capitals Quiz” template could be a great starting point. It tackles complex issues, such as working with arrays and randomizing the display of that data.

New DuckDuckGo Bang – !pho

DuckDuckGo Logo DuckDuckGo is a search engine that emphasizes privacy. The site explains itself as, “The search engine that doesn’t track you.” That’s an important feature with today’s increasingly invasive technology — but that’s not the main reason why I like DuckDuckGo. I like healthy competition. I’ve had lots of bad experiences with Google, so it’s nice to see a strong alternative. I’ve switched my default search engine to DuckDuckGo and it’s been pretty good.
