30 of the 40 games for the Sega Genesis Mini have been announced. It looks like Sega is working really hard to making this retro console the best it can be. With games like Wily Wars (Mega Man 1, 2 & 3), Streets of Rage 2 and Earth Worm Jim, I’m already looking forward to the September 19, 2019 launch date. Not since the Dreamcast 9/9/1999 launch – two decades ago – have I been excited about a Sega system launch. Although, with 10 game announcements to go, Sega has a tough decision to make. I know, I know… I should be working. The requests for the Hype 4 book are starting to pile up and there’s increasing demand to bring back Wrapping. I’ve been trying to fix the problem. But today… today is Sunday. God declared that one day of the week is for resting, so I’m trying to have some fun this Sunday. I am… and I thought I’d share that enjoyment with you.
There’s been something of an ethical dilemma that’s been battling in my brain. Are video games moral? Is it nothing more than a waste of time? If so, wouldn’t it be sinful for developers to create such games and to profit from them? Is this profession nothing more than assuming the role of a digital drug dealer, where the youth are compelled to play again and again? Fortunately, games like Streets of Rage 2 remind me that video games can be good.
Nintendo has some hubris. The Nintendo Switch is slated to be available on March 3, 2017 – for $299. That puts it against the Xbox One S and the PlayStation 4 Slim. Worse, these two competing consoles can be found for significantly less money than $299. Direct from Amazon.com, it’s about $20-$30 cheaper. That’s with a bundled game. The problem is even bigger than that. Why buy a toy when you can get an iPad? The iPad Air 2 was recently on sale for $275. Games are fun, but sometimes you need to be productive. With so many choices, how does the Nintendo Switch fair against the competition?
It looks like Apple is gearing up to take the Apple TV seriously. The price of the device dropped from $99 to $69, HBO Now will be available on Apple TV next month and there are all sorts of neat rumors about Apple TV improvements for later this year. Yet, I realized something about Apple TV features. It doesn’t matter how many channels Apple adds to the Apple TV. Without a working remote, I couldn’t access any of them. The recent Apple TV update was met with frustration.
