I like Daylight Savings Time, as it’s the closest I can get to traveling back in time. Last Sunday night, if I made a mistake at 1:30 AM, I could pretend to time travel. At 2:00 AM, the clock moves back to 1:00 AM, allowing me to correct my mistake. Although, since I’m usually sleeping during this time, I don’t get to enjoy pseudo sci-fi adventures. This year, there is one very real DST mistake that Apple needs to correct. Monday morning dreamers, expecting to be awoken by their iPhone Alarm, might be in for a surprise.

I’m not a big fan of Halloween. With decades of video game experience, I’ve been training to shoot monsters — not dress up as them. My latest iPhone / iPod Touch game reflects that sentiment. In Annoyed Tomatoes, you play as a soldier. An advanced research facility has been overrun with mutant tomatoes. Your mission is to eradicate the hostile threat. This game is a bit creepy and more violent than I’m used to making. The music is a little eerie too, which helps to create a suspenseful mood. Even though I’m not usually enthusiastic about the holiday, Annoyed Tomatoes is a perfect creation for the weekend celebrations.
It is inevitable. CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays will go the way of the Dodo. The popular storage mediums of today will become no more important than 8-Track tape players or 5¼ floppy disks. A recent change to Netflix is one of the many catalysts for the impending obsolescence. You no longer need a disc to launch streaming video on your Wii or PlayStation 3 gaming consoles. Instead, you can simply download the Netflix software directly to the machine. I tested out the new software. The convenience was impressive.

I read some bad news today. It seems that GameSalad is heading in a new direction — down a road I cannot follow. With the new “GameSalad Direct” business model, games are published directly through GameSalad to the iTunes App Store. That’s great, if you’re not already registered with Apple. I am a registered developer and Photics is an Internet publishing company. I’m not pleased with GameSalad pushing into my publishing business. That means I’ll have to move my iOS apps to another platform. Corona is the likely choice.
