Free .WAV Wednesday — Coconut Hit

While creating the “Sound Effects — By Photics” collection, I researched Hollywood style audio techniques. Quite often, I would see references to coconut halves. Even from just watching old Bugs Bunny cartoons, I knew that a coconut could be an excellent way to mimic the sound of a horse galloping. I attempted to recreate such an effect, but I was unsuccessful. It’s a lot harder than it looks. I was especially astounded by the sheer difficulty of splitting a coconut in half.

Free .WAV Wednesday — Heart Monitor

After creating 500 sound effects, available for the mere price of $10, do I just kick back and relax? Do I become instantly rich? Do I get to retire to my private island? HA… no! Instead, the tedious part of game development begins — marketing. Just because I created an amazing product, it means nothing if the world doesn’t know about it. That’s the idea behind a new Photics.com  series — Free .Wav Wednesdays. At least for the immediate future, I’m planning to add a free sound effect to this website every Wednesday.

Annoyed Tomatoes

Annoyed TomatoesI’m not a big fan of Halloween. With decades of video game experience, I’ve been training to shoot monsters — not dress up as them. My latest iPhone / iPod Touch game reflects that sentiment. In Annoyed Tomatoes, you play as a soldier. An advanced research facility has been overrun with mutant tomatoes. Even though I’m not usually enthusiastic about the holiday, Annoyed Tomatoes is a perfect creation for the weekend celebrations.

GameSalad to Corona Conversion Project

I read some bad news today. It seems that GameSalad is heading in a new direction — down a road I cannot follow. With the new “GameSalad Direct” business model, games are published directly through GameSalad to the iTunes App Store. That’s great, if you’re not already registered with Apple. I am a registered developer and Photics is an Internet publishing company. I’m not pleased with GameSalad pushing into my publishing business. That means I’ll have to move my iOS apps to another platform. Corona is the likely choice.

Puzzling – Three iPad Puzzles Games

Puzzling - for iPad - ThumbnailIs your brain hungry for another puzzle? This app has three puzzles wrapped into one. It’s called Puzzling. I was in the mood to make something non-violent, something pretty and something challenging. The controls are easy, only requiring one touch at a time. The graphics are colorful, but add to the challenge. I pieced together this puzzle app for the iTunes store, but can you figure out the 16, 64 and 192 pieces of the puzzle?
